Sunday Activities

Sunday Dinners 1:00 – 5:00 PM

Every Sunday afternoon we get together from 1:00-5:00 PM for our big home cooked “family style” dinner. Being the excellent cook that she is (and I am prejudiced!), Yvonne always fixes a tremendous meal that is followed by a really delicious dessert!

While she puts the finishing touches on dinner, some servicemen and women read the paper, do the weekly Sunday crossword puzzles, or enjoy a hot cup of tea. Many check their email, surf the web, or play games on their phones. Still others take the opportunity to catch a few extra z’s (especially after a late night watch). While some who like to cook, help Yvonne in the kitchen.

We usually sit down to eat about 2:00 PM. After we say grace it gets really quiet for a while as everyone digs in! We talk, share story, and just get to know each other as we enjoy Yvonne’s culinary delicacies. I tell everyone, “If you leave our table hungry it’s your own fault!” No one has ever said galley food was better than Yvonne’s cooking!

After dinner we go into the living room. Sometimes we sing and worship, other times we watch a movie or a DVD of a book of the Bible. Afterwards we talk about the point of the film and what we all got out of it. Still other times we watch a football game.

We always close every Sunday afternoon by sharing prayer requests and praying for each other.

We get together and do the same family style dinner every year during the holidays too – Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter!

What Some Servicemen and Women Have Said:

"Desserts were always great. The fellowship was nice and a great escape from the training environment. I really liked the Bible study and growing spiritually. All my questions were answered in a practical way."
"My family back home at at 1400 on the weekends and we all sat around the dinner table and talked about our week. Being able to still do that while being away from everything that's familiar is very comforting."
"It was a chance to fellowship with other believers. To enjoy Yvonne's excellent cooking. And to watch a Christian related video after. These things really helped me grow in my Christian walk."
