Lighthouse Military Ministry

A Home Away From Home For Military Men And Women

john and yvonne

Are you in the Military?

Stationed in the Norfolk Virginia Beach area?

Are you lonely, homesick, or bored?

Tired of eating galley food all the time?

Always stuck on the ship or base with nothing to do?

Is hanging out at the mall by yourself getting old?

"Then come join our extended family..."

Who We Are

FOI Logo

Lighthouse Military Ministry is a Christian, Bible believing, Pentecostal,  house church located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. We are a connecting point fellowship of FREEDOM OUTREACH INTERNATIONAL, which connects military, veterans, and their communities with a missional, Christian family.

Dr. John Wagner spent 10 years as an enlisted Electronics Technician in the United States Navy. And spent another 10 years as a Navy Chaplain. With a Bachelors Degree in Bible, a Master of Divinity Degree, and a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Christian Leadership and Spiritual Renewal, he is a powerful evangelist, pastor, teacher, and spiritual mentor. He is also an Ordained Bishop in the Church of God, Cleveland, TN.

Yvonne is also a powerful evangelist and spiritual mentor, having been involved in military ministry for 50 years. She is an outstanding homemaker and a wonderful cook too! She’s also a great “Mom!”

Yvonne and I have lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia for 19 years. We open our home to young servicemen and women stationed in the Norfolk Virginia Beach area every weekend. We get together for FREE food, fun and games every Saturday night from 5-9 pm. And, we get together for a FREE family style dinner, movies, fellowship and worship every Sunday afternoon from 1-5 pm. Several times a year we also go on special events day trips to historical sites in this area, such as the Wright Brothers Museum, Colonial Williamsburg, and Civil War Reenactments in Yorktown. Did I mention these are FREE too?

We try to help them alleviate feelings of loneliness, isolation, boredom, and homesickness by providing a safe, comfortable, home and family environment. Somewhere they can get away from their bases or ships and back into a “real home” for a few hours each week. A home away from home for military men and women stationed in the Hampton Roads area.

We enjoy building relationships with them, being involved in their lives, and having a positive spiritual influence on them. These young adults quickly become part of our extended family. Yvonne and I often tell them they are a “guest” only the first time they come into our home. And, if they come back, we ‘adopt’ them as part of our family.”

Deployments

Deployments are a part of military life. So whenever one of our adopted sons or daughters leaves we are at the pier to say goodbye or welcome them back.

Weddings

Officiating at the wedding ceremonies of our "adopted" sons and daughters is one of the highlights of our ministry. Sometimes that means traveling all over the country!

"Family" Visits

We also stay in contact with our adopted "sons" and "daughters" with personal visits. Here we visited one of our newest grand children in Ohio.

"You Invited Me In..."

The Story of a Pentecostal Hospitality House Military Ministry

This is our story…the story of how God brought a young woman from Castro Valley, California and a young man from Austria together. How He saved them, filled them with the Holy Spirit, and called them into military ministry.

It’s the story of how He placed within their hearts an insatiable love for the young men and women serving in the United States military. Read the story of how John and Yvonne established their home away from home for military men and women. Share the story of how they open their home and their hearts to young eighteen to twenty-five year old soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen.

Let their story of the past 19 years inspire you. Join them in their efforts to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to servicemen and women throughout the United States. You can help reach the world for Christ right from your living room…as you invite them in.

The book is available on Amazon.com by clicking on the picture of the book.

What Some Servicemen and Women Have Said:

"John and Yvonne Wagner have made a very positive impact on my spiritual walk. I encourage any serviceman or woman in the Norfolk area to hit them up for a good ol’ home cooked meal and great fellowship!"

"Their home was a safe and relaxing place. My husband and I have been blessed to be a part of the Wagner's ministry and their love and support. Thank you so much, we love ya like our own family.

"Yvonne is a very good cook and that was a big draw for me, as a single soldier I was all about good food! It felt like I had a place to go away from the base that was sort of like a second home."
